In more than a century since the begin of modern research on the systematic of Hepaticae there has been no overall survey of austral hepatics. No general guide exists concerning this topic, only a widely scattered "micro-literature" which is often hardly accessible. This study is designed to fill the huge gap and has been prepared to allow the worker to orient himself in the intricate and elaborate austral hepatic flora and to provide access to the countless relevant, mostly relativeley recent papers.
